As of 2020, twelve (12) cigarette manufacturing companies are currently in operation in Bangladesh, with British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB), Japan Tobacco Inc. (JTI) and Abul Khair Tobacco Company Ltd being the largest three players. There are four price tiers of cigarette brands in Bangladesh: Low, Medium, High and Premium. According to a 2018 National Board of Revenue data, Low tier brands (price Taka 39+ per 10 sticks) constitute 70.77 percent of the total cigarette market. Almost the entirety of cigarettes consumed in Bangladesh is locally produced, with imported cigarettes constituting less than 1 percent of the market.
